Zipliner and ZipTool

Improving Safety and Implementability
of Direct-Push Soil Sampling

Hand and foot injuries can result from opening direct push sampling liners using sharp blades. A new state-of-the-art liner for safe soil sampling is now available that opens without a blade.

Designed with safety in mind, the Zipliner Soil Sampling Sleeves are easy-to-open liners for use in connection with direct push soil sampling technology. After removal from the soil sampler, the Zipliner can safely and easily be opened using the ZipTool to expose the sample without the need of cutting blades or other sharp objects in accordance with health and safety requirements.

By spinning the ZipTool with a battery-powered hand drill, the Zipliner tab can be rolled up onto the shank of the ZipTool, safely exposing the soil sample contained in the Zipliner.

November 2014 Photo Competition Winner

Graduate student Jason Nolan, from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, uses a Geotech Bladder Pump, custom hose Geo Reel, and a Geotech Geocontrol Pro controller to sample monitoring wells in Hastings, NE. Samples are being taken at 10ft. intervals in order to ascertain a depth profile of nitrate, DO, pH, Alkalinity, and metals, such as uranium, arsenic, and selenium in these wells. By creating this profile, researchers hope to determine where in the aquifer the most productive region of redox cycling is occuring, leading to the mobilization of metals contaminating the aquifer.
