A TECH MINUTE
ABOUT ORP

What is ORP?

Oxidation-Reduction Potential (ORP) is a qualitative measurement that determines how oxidizing or reducing an environment is. When it comes to environmental monitoring or remediation, ORP determines the health of an aqueous environment and its ability to break down contamination and biological matter.

  • Oxidation occurs when a substance
    lose electrons
  • Reduction occurs when a substance gains electrons

ORP is measured with water quality instrumentation and sensors using low voltage between a platinum and reference electrode. ORP/Redox is expressed in millivolt (mV) units, in which Oxidizing environments are indicated by a positive reading and Reducingenvironments display negative readings.

ORP is generally significant in water which contains a relatively high concentration of a redox-active species, e.g., the salts of many metals (Fe2+, Fe3+) and strong oxidizing (chlorine) and reducing (sulfite ion) agents. Thus, ORP may be utilized to track the metallic pollution in groundwater or surface water.

MASK-UP

Protect Against Airborne Particulate & Viruses

While not everyone has the same sensitivity to wildfire smoke, it's still a good idea to avoid breathing smoke if you can help it. The EPA has reported that the biggest health threat from smoke comes from inhaling microscopic particulate matter distributed throughout the air. When it penetrates deep into your lungs, particulate can cause irritation and progressively result in aggravated chronic heart and lung diseases.

On the heels of one of the worst wildfire seasons on record, air pollution levels are exceeding unhealthy levels. Additionally with elevated rates of transmittable viruses, society is seeking better respiratory protection.

As the manufacturer of Airgami Masks, Geotech has worked closely with the founder of Air99 to perform N95 quantitative fit testing to develop better protection against airborne particulates and viruses. The Airgami mask features:

  • an origami structure that universally conforms to the face comfortably
  • an N95 layered filter with large surface area to promote better air flow
  • reusable materials of construction, meaning it can be washed or even autoclaved

Airgami Respirator

Airgami has been featured in National Geographic "We need better face masks..." and has surpassed Phase 1 of the BARDA/NIOSH Mask Innovation Challenge.

ENTERPRISE UAS FLIGHT TRAINING

Launching a GeoSwift drone

"I enrolled in the course in preparation for the Part 107 exam. Initially, I thought the value of this training was solely the exam prep. After taking the course, the value is the knowledge, hands on training, and confidence to operate a UAS in the field. Leptron closes the gap between faking your way through or knowing what you are doing and why."
-Nathan W.

The health and safety during this global pandemic is our number one priority during training. To ensure a safe environment for Geotech Drone Flight Training attendees, we continue to follow CDC guidelines to ensure our 3500 square-foot training room is sanitized, seating is distanced, and students receive individual training books and practice aircraft.

Available Course Options:

  • Individual Private Instruction
  • Corporate/Group Courses
  • Public Agency – UAS Program Development
  • Recurrent Exam Preparation
