Radon is an element that is present in all soil gas and groundwater. Due to its precise detectability and physical properties, the Durridge RAD7 portable radon and thoron detector can measure low level concentrations on-site. Beyond traditional Rn detection, the RAD7 is also used to survey residual non-aqueous phase liquid (NAPL) in soil and groundwater. A reduction of Rn concentrations is observed in zones where residual NAPL contamination is present – enabling radon to be the tracer for environmental studies.

As an alternative to injection of artificial compounds, radon detection offers three key advantages:

• No risk of introducing contamination
• No deviation of environmental conditions from current state
• Ideal for small to large project areas over an extended time
